What’s Your Pink Pick? Pink’s CEO and Consultants Share Their Favorite Pink Training Course
Inquiring minds want to know all kinds of interesting information – after all, who knows when you might need it for a trivia contest? For example, what one Pink training course would Pink Elephant’s CEO (keep reading) and consultants (see above) pick as their favorite?
When Pink Elephant’s CEO Fatima Cabral was asked this question, she chose organizational change management (OCM). That’s because she knows organizations are going through many challenging changes, especially with staff working remotely. Plus, it includes guidance about one of her favorite business subjects, leadership communication.
The Challenge of Change
If you’ve ever tried to introduce major change, you likely know the challenge isn’t about making the actual decision to change a process, practice, tool, or technique. The real challenge is how to ensure people are on board to accept and implement the identified change. Essential to this, is understanding the psychological impacts of change on people and workplace culture, and recognizing that one of the leading reasons why change fails is because people do not get on board!
Communication Is Key
At the time of change, communication is more important than ever. Fatima notes one crucial concept of organizational change management is the Power of 10 communication concept described by John P. Kotter. In his book, Leading Change, Kotter explains this concept as the finding that “most leaders under-communicate … by at least a factor of 10 (or 100 or even 1,000!)”.
This means organizations need to communicate clearly and concisely, as well as early on and frequently to all stakeholders. Definitely something to think about and put into practice. Frequent, meaningful, and vision-driven communication are key to successful organizational change management.
In addition to Leading Change, Fatima also identifies the following books as among the best to read about communication and leadership and certainly ones that have influenced her over the years:
- Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die and Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard both by Chip Heath and Dan Heath
- The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
- Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by Daniel Goleman
Make sure to add these four books to your must-read list!
